What do I need to consider before deciding to have a website?

Getting a website is always a big deal - no matter how small or how large your business is - it's your public face to the rest of the world and you want to look good!!
There are a few basics that you need to have ticked off  to make things go smoothly - so what are they? What do you need to think about before you embark on getting a website then?
  1. Purpose: The first thing you should consider is the purpose of your website. What do you want to achieve with it? Do you want to sell products, provide information, or generate leads? This will help you determine the type of website you need and the features and functionalities that should be included.

  2. Audience: Consider who your target audience is and what they will be looking for on your website. This will help you create a website that is tailored to their needs and interests.

  3. Branding: Your website should reflect your brand and communicate your company’s message effectively. Make sure that your website design, colors, and content align with your brand.

  4. Content: Think about the type of content you will need for your website, and make sure you have it ready (or at least a good idea about it) before starting your website.

  5. Functionality: Consider the functionality that you need for your website, such as e-commerce, appointment scheduling, contact forms, and so on.

  6. Budget: Websites can vary greatly in cost, from free to tens of thousands of pounds!! Consider your budget and the cost of maintaining a website before making a decision.

  7. Maintenance: Websites require regular maintenance and updates to ensure that they are running smoothly and that the information is current. Consider if you have the time or resources to maintain your website.

  8. SEO: Search engine optimization (SEO) is important to help your website rank well in search engine results. Make sure to consider how to optimize your website for SEO.

  9. Hosting: Consider where you will host your website and if you have the technical know-how to manage it.

  10. Legal requirements: Make sure you understand and comply with legal requirements such as privacy policy and terms of use.

By considering these factors, you will be able to make a well-informed decision about whether to have a website and what type of website is best for your business.

So, some of this checklist is really dry but that's why enrolling the help of an expert can help! They can cut through the dull drudgery of linking up domains, installing apps and so on but, if you've got a good designer, they will help you navigate all this so it's an exciting and motivating prospect - not something to be dreaded.

Do you need a website? Yes, most likely!

Is it going to hurt? No, not if you get the right kind of help!
